Although Jenny is a wellknown supermodel, television personality and actress, when she started out on her modeling career, she was told she was too curvy. She delivered her photos to the Playboy magazine's Chicago office. The editors liked them and she posed as Miss October 1993. A few months later, she won the Playmate of the Year title.

However, Hollywood auditions proved difficult to come by at this stage but with the efforts of Ray Manzella, Jenny McCarthy's manager and boyfriend, she landed an interview at MTV. MTV's producers liked what they saw in Jenny, and she was hired to co-host "Singled Out", which debuted in the Summer of 1995. With her quick witted humour and funny faces, Jenny Mccarthy became a hit. MTV hired Jenny on a one year contract as a VJ. At the same time, Playboy offered big bucks for more nude pictures of the blonde beauty.

In 1996, Carmen Electra replaced Jenny McCarthy as the host on Singled Out and Jenny started concentrating her attention on creating an MTV sketch-variety series. She has appeared on countless magazine covers, a guest spot on Baywatch, a role on Wings, a controversial ad campaign for Candies shoes. She also declined proposals from Fox and NBC. She appeared as blonde nurse in Things To Do in Denver When You're Dead (1995) and, later, portrayed her first substantial role the movie The Stupids (1996), opposite Tom Arnold. BASEketball in 1998, and Scream 3 in 2000 came later. Jenny McCarthy turned screenwriter with the feature film Dirty Love which premiered at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival in which she plays a jilted photographer who sets off on a mission to get back at her philandering model boyfriend and embargs on an outrageous and hilarious journey in search of true love.

McCarthy is the author of Jen-X (1997), an autobiography, and Belly Laughs: The Naked Truth About Pregnancy and Childbirth (2004). In her book Jen-X, Jenny revealed that when it came to modeling, she was "not that comfortable with nudity".

Jenny McCarthy's relationship with Ray Manzella ended when the couple separated in 1998 and McCarthy married John Mallory Asher on September 11, 1999. The couple have a son, Evan, who was born May 18, 2002. In August 2005, McCarthy and Asher filed for divorce.
